Message: Evelyn is gifted individual, a blessing to Central Maine brides! I purchased my dress at a thrift shop, and knew it needed slight alterations. I took my dress to a tailor shop in Bangor (they claim they do wedding gown alterations) The tailor ruined my dress, creating uneven seams on the bust, inserting a modesty panel, and jamming the zipper. As an added bonus, my dress had an offensive artificial cherry? scent that had permeated into the fabric. When I stopped in for a fitting I saw the damage that was being done to my dress and immediately took the dress home. It was 3 weeks before my wedding! A friend on Facebook recommended Evelyn. When I called and explained my situation and what had happened to the dress, she calmly said "Nothing can be done to a dress that can't be fixed. " She took my dress in as soon as I had it dry cleaned. My first fitting was 2 1/2 hours long. She understands the behavior of fabric, the lines of the seam, and how it will lay on the body. She looked at my body shape, my dress, back at me and started chopping up the seams of my dress with a razor blade. All without a measuring tape! Did I mention that she is amazing? Less than a week later, she called me to come back to the shop for another fitting. She was able to remove the modesty panel that was inserted, fix the zipper and rebuild the bust of my gown. She then hand stitched lace and seed beads over the area where she needed to make the repair from the tailor's disaster. I was able to wear my dress without shaping undergarments or a modest panel. It fit perfectly and looked amazing. There was no evidence of the trauma my dress had experienced.. She put in hours of love and care into this dress. Her work was competitively priced. Her shop is in her home, she lives and breathes bridal gowns. I also saw the incredible work she was doing on a custom made gown. She also sells gowns, shoes, veils and accessories.. When I think about Evelyn and the magic she performs, I think of the scene in Cinderella (the original) where the fairy god mother is creating a gown for Cinderella, the birds are helping with the ribbons, the mice are gathering the notions, and a gown is created. I am serious.. it is magical experience!
